Best Early Choices

In Final Fantasy Resonance's first two chapters, take Warrior of Light for Rain, Cloud for Lasswell and Leah for Fina, awaken Leah then Cloud first, grab the free Flamberge, Iwakirimaru and the hidden Black Garb before buying gear, choose Strength for Rain and MP for Fina in the dialogue choices, do every Chapter 1 sub quest, turn 12 Tablet Shards into the Stagger Ring, and claim your purchase bonuses from the postbox by the inn in Mitra.

The first choice that counts in Final Fantasy Resonance comes at the Earth Shrine, minutes in: Rain answers Lasswell with one of three lines, and each gives him a different permanent bonus of +3 to Strength, Stamina or Spirit (GameRant, Oct 23, 2026). KultZ points this out in his beginner's guide because "the dialogue doesn't make this choice obvious", and picks Strength for a physical Rain, adding that a different pick is no reason to restart (KultZ, Oct 17, 2026). This page goes through the decisions of Chapters 1 and 2 in order: Visions, awakening, gear, dialogue, sub quests, Tablet Shards and bonus items. The general tips are on Beginner's Guide, and the full route on Chapter 1 Walkthrough and Chapter 2 Walkthrough.

Visions to take first

Mitra gives you the first two Visions, Tronn and Leah. The Outer Haven sums them up: Tronn for Fire, Blizzard and Thunder, Leah for Cure and Shell (The Outer Haven, Oct 20, 2026); Leah also has Libra, which shows weaknesses and resistances (Game8, read Oct 25, 2026). Game8 starts with Leah on Rain and Tronn on Lasswell (Game8, updated Oct 22, 2026).

Chapter 1 has three more Sanctums: Warrior of Light near Kol, Cloud north of Grandport Harbor and Terra southwest of Felicitas (Game8). KultZ describes the five: Tronn for utility, including MP back whenever an enemy is staggered, Leah for support with Libra and Healing Wind, Warrior of Light for defense, Cloud for physical damage and Terra for magic. His starting pairs are Warrior of Light on Rain, Cloud on Lasswell and Leah on Fina, with Terra when you want more magic, the same team Game8 recommends for Chapter 1 (Game8, updated Oct 23, 2026).

Get Cloud early. IGN's "9 Things" video says most players wait for the airship, but Cloud's Sanctum is a short trek into the desert after your first visit to Kol, and its author kept Cloud on Lasswell all game: a Breaker like him, with Deathblow at Mastery Rank 5 and Libra built in. GameSpot's route starts north of Grandport Harbor and crosses a sand waterfall; it cannot be reached from the Kol side of the desert, GameSpot says (GameSpot, Oct 22, 2026). Screen Rant measured Cloud's Resonance, Ascension, at almost 2,000 damage on weak enemies at level 15, the strongest on the first two continents (Screen Rant, Oct 20, 2026).

Davidvinc RPGs' advice for every new continent: make "a bee line" to the Vision shrines before anything else, so the main quest levels Visions you would otherwise not have yet (Davidvinc RPGs, Oct 20, 2026). In Chapter 2 that means Zidane, Noctis and Onion Knight, all on Dirnado (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). The Outer Haven gets Noctis, in the west, before the Wind Shrine, for his Ice against its boss (The Outer Haven). Sanctum quiz answers change nothing (GameSpot).

What to awaken first

Awakening is separate from Mastery: a Moogle of Light spends Magicite to raise a Vision's star level, and the stars are shared by every character who uses it (GameRant, Oct 20, 2026). Magicite Shards give the first star, Magicite the second, Magicite Cryst the third (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). You cannot use them until late in Chapter 1: after Siren's Tower, leave Grandport by ship and return, and the Moogle of Light near the item shop gives a free Magicite Shard (GameRant). KultZ's rule is to read the next star's benefit and spend on the Vision you use most.

Game8's order: Leah first (Cura at one star, Curaga at two), then Cloud (Cross-Slash and a large critical boost against staggered enemies at two stars), and Warrior of Light and Terra only to one star. Leah matters less after level 35, when Fina learns Curaga herself (Game8, updated Oct 22, 2026).

Chapter 1 Magicite Shards, from KultZ's list and RPG Site: the sub quests Secrets Unearthed and "Rear Support, Ahoy!", Siren's reward, the free one from Grandport's Moogle of Light, the Marauder in the cave north of the port, and the third Oblivion Palace chest at 9 Tablet Shards (KultZ; RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026). Game8 lists the Marauder at level 15 with 30,000 HP, weak to Wind (Game8).

Gear: take the free pieces first

KultZ's first shopping rule is to check what you already have: open chests and look at quest rewards before buying a set of upgrades, then buy only what your main attacker or your weakest defender needs, keeping gil for items. The Outer Haven agrees: compare chest finds before buying in each town, since old gear sells (The Outer Haven).

Item For Where
Flamberge Rain Sub quest Dream of an Idealist
Iwakirimaru Lasswell Sub quest The Weight of Mercy
Sakura-Fubuki Chest in Siren's Tower
Black Garb Hidden chest, Grandshelt Castle
Floral Arc Fina Overworld sparkle
Monk's Prayer Beads Sub quest Secrets Unearthed, a Siren's Tower chest, or 1,500 gil at Grandport

Sources: Game8, read Oct 25, 2026; GameSpot, Oct 22, 2026.

IGN's first early tip is Dream of an Idealist, picked up in Grandshelt at the start of Chapter 1: its Flamberge is an attack upgrade for Rain and adds 140 to his base HP, "a pretty big chunk in the early game" (IGN, Oct 21, 2026).

Do not leave the burning Grandshelt Castle without the Black Garb. KultZ's directions: after Hell's Rider, go up the stairs and left, past the room with a Phoenix Down, to a knight statue on the left; a hidden passage in the wall beside it leads to the chest. Game8 lists this chest among the few one-time pickups, since you cannot return to the castle for a while (Game8, read Oct 25, 2026), and says to explore the castle fully before rescuing the King (Game8).

What to buy, if gil allows: at Grandport Harbor, Game8 picks the Claymore (1,400 gil) for Rain, the Surcoat (980 gil), and the Crescent Bow (1,600 gil) and Spirit Veil (750 gil) for Fina; Idaten's Shoes (600 gil) and Mage's Glasses (800 gil) complete its early builds (Game8; Game8, updated Oct 21, 2026). Buy Monk's Prayer Beads before Siren: her Allure charms the whole party at about half HP, and the beads stop it (GameSpot). Equipment shops change their stock each chapter (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026).

Dialogue stat choices

Each party member has one conversation whose answer is a permanent stat bonus. Unlike Sanctum answers, these stick unless you reload (Game8).

Character Where Options Pick
Rain Earth Shrine, Chapter 1 Strength +3, Stamina +3 or Spirit +3 Strength (KultZ)
Fina After Siren, Chapter 1 MP +10, Stamina +3 or Spirit +3 MP (Game8)
Lid Dilmagia Shipyard Strength +3, Magic +3 or Stamina +3
Nichol Aquapolis, Chapter 3 HP +30, Magic +3 or Speed +3
Lasswell Rebel Hideout, Chapter 4 MP +10, Strength +3 or Speed +3 Strength (Game8)
Jake Zoldaad Castle HP +30, Strength +3 or Stamina +3 Strength (Game8)
Sakura Village of Sunioo, Chapter 5 MP +10, Magic +3 or Spirit +3

Source: GameRant, Oct 23, 2026; picks from KultZ and Game8.

Fina's comes in Grandport after you beat Siren. KultZ notes the three answers give 10 MP, three Stamina or three Spirit, and suggests a separate save before the Siren fight if you want to be able to replay it. IGN's "9 Things" video makes the same point for all of them: unlike the Sanctum answers, these "have a tangible impact on your party's stats" (IGN, Oct 21, 2026).

Sub quests in Chapters 1 and 2

Do all of them: each pays gear, gil or Magicite, and the bosses give EXP at the right time.

Chapter Sub quest Reward
1 Dream of an Idealist Flamberge, 500 gil
1 Secrets Unearthed Magicite Shard, Monk's Prayer Beads
1 The Weight of Mercy Iwakirimaru, 500 gil
1 Rear Support, Ahoy! Magicite Shard, 500 gil
2 Elven Maven Magicite Shard, 800 gil
2 Lyrical Riddles Magicite Shard, 800 gil
2 Arise, Mechabo! Magicite Shard, repaired Mechabo
2 on Mechabo Evolved Magicite, new Mechabo skills for Lid

Sources: Game8; RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026; Game8 Chapter 2, updated Oct 23, 2026. Their bosses are small: Dream of an Idealist's Poison Flora is level 7 and The Weight of Mercy's Imposter Soldier level 10 (Game8). The Mechabo quests are on Chocobo and Airship.

Two early fights are better left for later. The sinkhole south of Kol hides an optional Antlion, level 20 with 20,000 HP; avoid it early (Game8). On Mt. Thunderclap in Chapter 2, Lid offers a ladder shortcut for 1,000 gil: Game8 says do not pay, take the long route for the EXP, and you can still reach the shortcut's Cape of the Raiju and Tablet Shard through the Back Entrance; the choice has no effect on the story (Game8, updated Oct 21, 2026).

Tablet Shards and the Stagger Ring

Pick up every golden sparkle. IGN notes the game never says where the Tablet Shards go: take them to the enigmatic princess at the Oblivion Palace east of Grandport Harbor, where early rewards include Magicite Shards and the Stagger Ring, stagger output up 10%. Chapter 1 has 12 shards and Chapter 2 15 (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026); Game8 lists the Vitality Charm (+120 HP) at 3 shards and the Stagger Ring at 12 (Game8). KultZ calls the Stagger Ring "a very useful item to start the game with". Game8 advises visiting the palace regularly, since late turn-ins make the rewards less useful (Game8).

Claim the purchase bonuses in Mitra

If you pre-ordered, bought early or own the Digital Deluxe Edition, the items wait in the postbox in front of the inn in the Town of Mitra, once the story passes a certain point (Steam, read Oct 24, 2026):

Frequently asked questions

What should I do first in Final Fantasy Resonance? Do Dream of an Idealist in Grandshelt for the free Flamberge, take the hidden Black Garb in Grandshelt Castle, choose Strength for Rain at the Earth Shrine, then collect Tablet Shards toward the Stagger Ring at the Oblivion Palace. Claim any purchase bonuses from the postbox by Mitra's inn.

Which Visions are best early in Final Fantasy Resonance? Warrior of Light on Rain, Cloud on Lasswell and Leah on Fina, as Game8 and KultZ both suggest, with Terra for magic and Tronn for elemental spells. Cloud's Sanctum can be reached in Chapter 1, without the airship.

Which Vision should I awaken first in Final Fantasy Resonance? Game8 says Leah first, for Cura and then Curaga, then Cloud, whose second star adds Cross-Slash and a big critical boost on staggered enemies. Warrior of Light and Terra only need one star early.

What are the best dialogue choices in Final Fantasy Resonance? Strength for Rain at the Earth Shrine (KultZ), MP for Fina after Siren (Game8), and Strength for Lasswell and Jake (Game8). Each is a small permanent bonus, so no choice ruins a build.

Where do I get my pre-order bonus in Final Fantasy Resonance? From the postbox in front of the inn in the Town of Mitra, after a certain point in the story. The same postbox holds the early purchase and Digital Deluxe items.

Should I pay Lid 1,000 gil at Mt. Thunderclap in Final Fantasy Resonance? Game8 says no: the long route gives more EXP, the shortcut's Cape of the Raiju and Tablet Shard are still reachable through the Back Entrance, and the choice does not change the story.
