Jake

Jake is the rebel leader of Final Fantasy Resonance, a carefree-seeming gunner who fights on luck with skills such as Coin Toss and Gamble Shot; he is a Commando who joins in Chapter 4 at the Rebel Hideout in the Zoldaad Empire, has the highest Strength in the party, and is voiced by Jonah Scott in English and Yoshimasa Hosoya in Japanese.

Jake is the gambler of Final Fantasy Resonance's party: a Commando who leads the rebel army against the Zoldaad Empire and joins in Chapter 4. Square Enix's Pixel Trailer gives him the line "So, will lady luck smile upon me today?" before showing his Gamble Shot in battle, with Rain, Lasswell, Nichol and Jake in the party. Square Enix's profile calls him a rebel leader who seems carefree and fights with luck-based skills such as Coin Toss and Gamble Shot (RPG Site, Aug 24, 2026). Jonah Scott voices him in English and Yoshimasa Hosoya in Japanese.

A battle screen filled with radiating light and confetti and the large words SWEEPING STAGGER. Two enemy health bars read STAGGERED, and the party bars at the bottom name Rain, Lasswell, Nichol and Jake with their HP and MP.

Stats and role

Jake is the strongest physical attacker on paper: Game8's maximum stats give him the highest Strength of the eight and the lowest Magic (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026):

HP MP Strength Stamina Magic Spirit Speed
5,637 443 550 411 243 339 429

IGN's combat guide names Jake with Lid and Sakura as the Commandos, who "specialize in attacking enemies and dealing out damage". His power depends on Luck, which builds as he fights. That makes him the party member reviewers disagree on most: DualShockers ranks him last of eight because his Luck-counting skills are hard to plan around, while IGN's Vision guide says that if you stack his Luck "just right, you can deal some crazy physical damage".

His Limit Bursts are T.R.N.D. (one bar, Wind damage with a high critical rate) and Glücksschmied (two bars, damage that scales with Luck, which then resets) (Game8, read Oct 25, 2026). Save Glücksschmied for when his Luck is high.

Best Visions and builds

IGN's Vision guide calls Jake "the perfect candidate" for Tidus's damage buff, which grows with the number of buffs on him (so it pairs with Nichol's Formations), and notes his skills Hide and Gamble Shot land guaranteed critical hits, which work well with Cloud's critical stagger and critical boost abilities.

  • Game8 leads with Firion, since Arms Akimbo's two actions a turn suit "an excellent physical attacker". Alternatives: Squall (Double Action), Tidus (First Strike, to act first and stack Luck quickly), Bartz, Sephiroth (best passives, 40% more critical rate) and Zidane (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026).
  • Destructoid's Vision list does not cover Jake as of Oct 25, 2026.

Dialogue stat choice

At Zoldaad Castle, Jake's dialogue choice gives a permanent HP +30, Strength +3 or Stamina +3; Game8 recommends Strength (GameRant, Oct 23, 2026).

Story and substory

Spoilers for Chapters 4 to 6 follow.

The Zoldaad Empire is a militaristic nation holding the Fire Crystal, and its oppression has given rise to the rebel army Jake leads (RPG Site, Aug 24, 2026). In Chapter 4 the party reaches his Rebel Hideout and he joins during the scenes there, before the Weapons Factory, Zoldaad Castle and the fight with the Emperor (Chapter 4 Walkthrough).

His substory, "Token Legacy", is the trickiest to start. PowerPyx says to spend a night at an inn once Chapter 6 begins and then travel to Zoldaad (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026); RPG Site started it by sleeping at the Olderion Inn after the story events at the Nameless Ruins, adds that any inn may work, and suspects an Active Time Chat with Jake may be needed first. Then talk to the Info Dealer in the Zoldaad Slums, take the train from Capital Station, examine two points at Kellis Station and talk to Shera in Zoldaad Castle. The reward is the Trick Coin and a permanent HP +100, MP +30, Strength +30 and Stamina +20 (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026). His ultimate weapon, Caelum Renatum, comes from Aileen (Crafting and Adamantite).
