Chapter 1 Walkthrough
Chapter 1 of Final Fantasy Resonance, Tailing the Truth, follows the prologue and runs from the Earth Shrine and Grandshelt through Mitra, Grandport Harbor, Kol, Felicitas and the Kolobos Ruins to Siren's Tower, where Siren becomes your first Esper; Fina joins, five Visions can be found, and clearing it unlocks the achievement A Journey Begins.
Chapter 1 of Final Fantasy Resonance, Tailing the Truth, opens with Rain and Lasswell sent to investigate the Earth Shrine and ends with a ship leaving Grandport Harbor after the boss fight at Siren's Tower. In between, the route RPG Site lays out runs through Grandshelt's castle and town, the Earth Shrine, Mitra, Grandport Harbor, Kol, Felicitas, the Kolobos Ruins, Siren's Tower and an optional cave (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026). This is the chapter the free demo covers, prologue included, so a demo save carries straight into it (see Demo and Save Transfer). CGInferno's playthrough, shown here, puts the chapter title and the first goal, "Investigate the Earth Shrine", at the top left of the screen.

Spoilers for the prologue and Chapter 1 follow.
Prologue
The prologue is a scripted battle on a burning battlefield: a hooded woman fights an Iron Giant, which RPG Site notes is weak to Thundaga, and the fight ends when Bahamut uses Megaflare (RPG Site). Game8's advice is simply to keep casting Thundaga and summon Bahamut when the game prompts you (Game8, Oct 22, 2026). In CGInferno's run the Thundaga label shows over the first big hit, and a "Summoning Espers" tutorial follows. Nothing here can be lost.
Earth Shrine and Grandshelt
After the briefing in Grandshelt, Rain and Lasswell walk down into the Earth Shrine, a short dungeon whose boss, Belmodar, is level 4 with 2,000 HP and weak to Fire and Dark: Game8 suggests spamming Fire with Rain and the Flame Scroll I item with Lasswell (Game8 boss list, read Oct 25, 2026). PLAYGAMES' no-commentary run shows the fight in the shrine's crystal hall, with a Fire spell landing on it. Inside the shrine Rain gets the first of the game's permanent dialogue choices: Strength +3, Stamina +3 or Spirit +3 (GameRant, Oct 23, 2026). At the crystal an armored knight knocks the pair down and the Earth Crystal shatters.
In the Town of Mitra the story gives you the first two Visions, Tronn and Leah (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). Tronn brings Fire, Blizzard and Thunder; Leah brings Cure and Shell (The Outer Haven, Oct 20, 2026), and Game8 suggests Leah on Rain and Tronn on Lasswell to start (Game8). The choice is not permanent: Visions can be swapped at any time (see Visions and Best Early Choices).
Grandshelt Castle is overrun by undead when you return, so Game8 says to bring Light damage and healing, and to explore every room before you save the King, because you cannot come back for a while (Game8). The boss in the great hall is Hell's Rider, level 6 with 4,000 HP and weak to Ice and Light, flanked by three Dark Skeletons that Game8 says to kill first; Tronn's Hibernal Fury and both characters' Limit Bursts finish it (Game8 boss list). The frames show the level 6 Hell's Rider behind the level 5 skeletons. After this fight, Game8 points to a hidden wall by the knight statue that hides the Black Garb chest, one of the castle's one-time chests (Game8 missables, read Oct 25, 2026).
In the throne room the armored knight returns and names himself Umbra in the subtitles. The fight is a scripted loss after a few turns, so RPG Site says not to spend items or MP on it (RPG Site). Afterward Rain meets a girl on a castle balcony: Fina, who joins as your Medic once you leave Grandshelt (Game8, Oct 24, 2026).
Grandport Harbor, Kol and Felicitas
The world map opens here. The Grandport Harbor shops are worth a stop: Game8 lists the Claymore (1,400 gil) for Rain, the Surcoat (980 gil), and the Crescent Bow (1,600 gil) and Spirit Veil (750 gil) for Fina (Game8, read Oct 25, 2026). The Tablet Shard tutorial also appears around here; three shards open the first chest from the Enigmatic Princess at Oblivion Palace, southeast of Grandport Harbor, for the Princess's Reward achievement (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026).
In the Village of Kol, Game8 says a night at the inn unlocks chocobos, which gives the achievement Kweh! (Game8; PowerPyx); see Chocobo and Airship. Keep away from the sinkhole south of Kol for now: it hides an optional Antlion, level 20 with 20,000 HP, weak to Water (Game8).
The three Chapter 1 Sanctums, per Game8, are the Warrior of Light near Kol, Cloud north of Grandport Harbor and Terra southwest of Felicitas (Game8). Cloud's route is the tricky one: GameSpot says to go north from Grandport Harbor, take the bridge slightly east, cross the sand waterfall, go all the way north past a cave and wrap back south, and that it cannot be reached from the Kol side of the desert (GameSpot, Oct 22, 2026). Each Sanctum asks three questions whose answers change nothing (GameSpot, same article).
Sub quests that open
Game8 lists five sub quests in Chapter 1 (Game8):
| Sub quest | Reward | Boss |
|---|---|---|
| Dream of an Idealist | Flamberge, 500 gil | Poison Flora: level 7, 1,200 HP, weak to Wind and Fire |
| Secrets Unearthed | Magicite Shard, Monk's Prayer Beads | |
| The Weight of Mercy | Iwakirimaru, 500 gil | Imposter Soldier: level 10, 1,600 HP, weak to Ice and Dark; cure paralysis fast |
| Rear Support | ||
| Ahoy! | Magicite Shard, 500 gil |
Sources: Game8, Game8 boss list.
The Flamberge and Iwakirimaru are the weapons Game8 builds its early Rain and Lasswell around, so these two are worth doing before Siren's Tower (Game8, Oct 21, 2026).
Kolobos Ruins
In the Kolobos Ruins the party meets Dr. Lazarov among glowing green tanks, then fights The Hunger: level 9, 2,500 HP, in two phases, weak to Ice in the first and Light in the second; staggering it late in phase 1 gives you free turns when phase 2 begins (Game8 boss list). PLAYGAMES opens the fight with Blizzard, the Ice weakness Game8 names.
Siren's Tower
Siren's Tower holds a chest with the Monk's Prayer Beads and a one-time Citrine Pot fight (Game8). Fina's dialogue choice comes in the tower: MP +10, Stamina +3 or Spirit +3, and Game8 prefers the MP option (GameRant).
Halfway up, Gilgamesh blocks the way: level 11, 6,000 HP, and he always flees, so Game8 says not to burn MP or items (Game8 boss list). He makes off with the Genji Gloves. Game8 says they are gone for good; RPG Site says the Chapter 5 airship fight against him awards them (Game8 missables; RPG Site).
Siren waits at the top: level 11, 20,000 HP, weak to Lightning, and GameSpot advises being level 11 or higher (GameSpot, Oct 22, 2026). At about half HP she uses Allure, charming the whole party, and she casts Silence, which blocks spells for two rounds. GameSpot's counters are the Monk's Prayer Beads (1,500 gil each at the Grandport armor shop, one in a tower chest, one from Secrets Unearthed), Leah's Nullify Charm passive, or Esuna and Pray; its ideal setup is three Prayer Beads, Cloud on Lasswell (Thunder Surge), Tronn on Fina (Thunder) and the Warrior of Light on Rain (Thunder Blade). In PLAYGAMES' fight the Warrior of Light's Resonance strikes her with lightning. Beating her makes Siren your first Esper and drops a Magicite Shard (RPG Site).
Before you leave Grandport
Magicite cannot be used until late in the chapter: GameRant says to leave Grandport by ship after Siren's Tower and come back, and the Moogle of Light near the item shop gives a free Magicite Shard and opens Vision Awakening (GameRant, Oct 20, 2026). In PLAYGAMES' run the Moogle explains Awakening and Leah gets her first star. Game8 awakens Leah first (Cura at one star), then Cloud (Game8, Oct 22, 2026).
Two optional stops before Chapter 2: the Marauder, a Cave Master in the cave north of the port (level 15, 30,000 HP, weak to Wind), drops a Magicite Shard (Game8), and equipment shops refresh each chapter, so buy what you want now (RPG Site). Game8's Chapter 1 party is Rain with the Warrior of Light as tank, Lasswell with Cloud as breaker and Fina with Leah, or Terra for bosses (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).

Frequently asked questions
How long is Chapter 1 of Final Fantasy Resonance? Square Enix has not published a per-chapter time. PLAYGAMES' no-commentary run of Chapter 1, prologue included, is about 4 hours 19 minutes long (YouTube), and the whole story takes 30 to 40 hours by Square Enix's estimate (Siliconera, Oct 15, 2026).
How do you beat Siren in Final Fantasy Resonance? Siren (level 11, 20,000 HP) is weak to Lightning, so GameSpot recommends Thunder skills on every character and Monk's Prayer Beads against her party-wide Allure charm. Leah's Nullify Charm guards against it and Esuna cures it.
Can you beat Gilgamesh in Chapter 1 of Final Fantasy Resonance? No. Game8 says the Siren's Tower Gilgamesh fight always ends with him fleeing, so do not waste MP or items on it.
Where is Cloud in Final Fantasy Resonance Chapter 1? Cloud's Sanctum is north of Grandport Harbor; GameSpot says to go north from the port, cross the sand waterfall and wrap around from the north, since the Kol side of the desert does not connect.
When do you get the chocobo in Final Fantasy Resonance? In Chapter 1: Game8 says to sleep at the inn in the Village of Kol, which unlocks chocobos and the Kweh! achievement.
Is anything missable in Chapter 1 of Final Fantasy Resonance? DualShockers says there are no missables, while Game8 lists one-time chests in Grandshelt Castle (including the hidden Black Garb), the Citrine Pot fight in Siren's Tower and the Genji Gloves. RPG Site says the Genji Gloves come back in Chapter 5.
