Nichol
Nichol is the strategist of Final Fantasy Resonance, heir to the Wardens of the Waters of Olderion; he is a Synergist who buffs the whole party with Formations, joins in Chapter 3, has the highest Speed of the eight party members, and is voiced by Khoi Dao in English and Tsubasa Yonaga in Japanese.
Nichol is the party's support specialist in Final Fantasy Resonance: a Synergist, the role IGN's combat guide describes as "all about enhancing the party's abilities by providing buffs like defense and stagger power". He joins in Chapter 3 at Olderion, the Aquapolis, where his family belongs to the clan of the Wardens of the Waters who guard the Water Shrine (RPG Site, Jul 17, 2026); Siliconera calls him next in line to be Warden (Siliconera, Jul 17, 2026). Square Enix's profile makes him a strategist of the Olderion Federation. Khoi Dao voices him in English and Tsubasa Yonaga in Japanese.

Stats and role
Nichol is fast and fragile. Game8's maximum stats give him the highest Speed in the party, 553 to Lasswell's 552, and the lowest Strength (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026):
| HP | MP | Strength | Stamina | Magic | Spirit | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4,613 | 542 | 256 | 281 | 483 | 422 | 553 |

His Formation skills, used at the start of a battle, raise the party's stagger power, critical rate and stats (Nintendo Everything, Oct 20, 2026). Because his HP and defense start low, Game8 keeps him in reserve in Chapter 3 while he levels, puts him on Formations and Protectga in Chapter 4, and notes that his Formations gain an attack buff at level 34 (Game8, updated Oct 23, 2026). DualShockers ranks him third of eight: with Arms Akimbo and Tactic: Fluid Warfare he can act four times in one turn.
His Limit Bursts are Formation: Steeled Advance (one bar, fills allies' Limit Burst gauges as they act) and Mirroring Prism (two bars, every party member performs their action twice) (Game8, read Oct 25, 2026). IGN's Vision guide builds a 16-hit turn around Mirroring Prism with Firion's Arms Akimbo, Bartz's Dual Spellblade and Squall's Double Action.
Best Visions and builds
IGN's Vision guide calls Nichol "an incredibly strong supportive character" and pairs him with a healer: Leah early and Ayaka late, who has every healing ability he could need and makes each of his buffs last one turn longer. It also suggests giving physical attackers Tidus's ability that raises damage for each buff they carry, since Nichol stacks so many.
- Game8 leads with Firion, whose Arms Akimbo lets him lay down Formations twice in one turn. Alternatives: Onion Knight (LB Triple Charge, elemental magic), Aileen (early Limit Burst gauge), Tidus (First Strike, to buff before the attacks) and Ayaka (healing and LB Charge on Heal). Game8 notes Nichol "has the highest Speed among the playable characters" (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026).
- Destructoid picks Onion Knight, Terra or Tidus (Destructoid, Oct 24, 2026).
Every Vision is on Visions; rankings are on Best Visions and full parties on Best Party and Builds.
Dialogue stat choice
In the Aquapolis in Chapter 3, Nichol's dialogue choice gives a permanent HP +30, Magic +3 or Speed +3 (GameRant, Oct 23, 2026). Game8 notes such choices last unless you reload a save.
Story and substory
Spoilers for Chapters 3 and 5 follow.
IGN's reviewer singles out Nichol and Sakura as "the better-written characters" and calls "the emotional arc Nichol goes through" a definite highlight; Shacknews describes it as a revenge arc. He joins after the scenes in the Cave of Waters, and soon after, he and Lasswell leave the party for a while in Olderion's Old Town (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026).
His substory, "Nichol's Duty", starts by talking to him in Olderion in Chapter 5. It sends you to the Aggravated Fisherman by Olderion's shops, Lake Dorr, the southeast of the Olderion Federation (where you beat a Sahagin), the Cave of Waters and back to Lake Dorr, and rewards the Enchanted Ring with a permanent HP +100, MP +30, Magic +30 and Speed +20 (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026). It is also how you get the Esper Leviathan (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026; Espers). His ultimate weapon, Codex Providentiae, comes from Aileen (Crafting and Adamantite).
