Release date and unlock times
Every version came out on the same day, Oct 22, 2026, and the Launch Trailer that Square Enix posted that morning ends on "Final Fantasy Resonance available now." Consoles released on Oct 22 (Square Enix did not publish console unlock hours by region in the sources we read), while Steam unlocked worldwide at 16:00 UTC; that put the Japanese Steam release on Oct 23, as Japanese coverage pointed out (Denfaminicogamer, Oct 22, 2026; Insider Gaming, Oct 19, 2026). Square Enix's "Out now" post on Steam went up at 17:00 UTC (Square Enix on Steam, Oct 22, 2026). A few outlets printed Oct 21 or Oct 23 as the release date; Square Enix's own date is Oct 22.

The road to launch was short: Square Enix announced the game in the Nintendo Direct of Jun 9, 2026 and opened Steam pre-purchases the same day (Square Enix on Steam, Jun 9, 2026), released the free demo on Sep 3, 2026 during Sony's State of Play (Game Informer, Sep 3, 2026), and showed it at the Tokyo Game Show in September. The demo's save carries over to the full game (Demo and Save Transfer).

Digital Deluxe Edition
The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Magitek & Grimoire Deluxe Pack; URBAN GAMEPLAY's editions guide shows the store's contents list, with its notes that the items come from the postbox in the Town of Mitra and that the Magitek Armor Key changes the chocobo's look (Square Enix on Steam, Jun 9, 2026):
- Magitek Armor Key x1: makes your chocobo look like magitek armor
- Archwitch's Grimoire x1: unlocks "a certain character's" Fel Meteor Limit Burst, found only in this pack
- Mastery Ring x1: Steam's description says it raises the MRP earned in battle, RPG Site says it raises affinity with Visions
- Tent x5, Mist Potion x5, Mist Ether x5, Phoenix Down x5 and Remedy x3
The Magitek Armor Key is switched on and off under Items in the main menu (Steam). Mastery and MRP are explained on Abilities, AP and Mastery Rank. Owners of the Standard Edition can buy the same pack later as the Digital Deluxe Upgrade for $14.99 (RPG Site, Oct 21, 2026).
Collector's Edition
The Collector's Edition, $209.99 from the Square Enix Store, is shown in Square Enix's product image in URBAN GAMEPLAY's guide: a box with the game's art, acrylic figures of the cast, soundtrack discs and a book. It contains the physical Standard Edition, a code for the Digital Deluxe Upgrade, and the Collector's Goods Box: an acrylic block set, a pixel art book, the original soundtrack on CD (120 tracks) and a promo card for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game (RPG Site, Oct 21, 2026). The Goods Box alone, without the game, sold for $150. In Japan the Collector's Edition costs ¥25,500, sold only through the Square Enix e-STORE in limited numbers; the Steam version comes as a Steam key for the Digital Deluxe Edition (Denfaminicogamer, Jul 16, 2026). The soundtrack also comes out on its own on Oct 28, 2026, on 4 discs (RPG Site, Aug 24, 2026; Music and Soundtrack).
Pre-order and early purchase bonuses
Two different bonus packs were offered, with different deadlines; Square Enix's bonus art, shown in URBAN GAMEPLAY's guide, puts the pre-order Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack above the early purchase Squire Kickstart Pack.
| Bonus | Who gets it | Contents | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack | Pre-orders | Magitek Airship Passkey, Knight's Greatsword, Chestplate of Preparation (more EXP from battle), Magicite Shard x1, Tent x3, Mist Potion x3 | Before launch |
| Squire Kickstart Pack | Early purchases | Blessed Cuirass (more gil from battle), Mist Ether x1 | Steam: Nov 6, 2026, 8:59 a.m. PT; Nintendo eShop (US): Nov 5, 2026, 11:59 p.m. PT |
Sources: Square Enix on Steam (Jun 9, 2026), Steam (read Oct 24, 2026), Nintendo (read Oct 24, 2026).
The pre-order pack's Magitek Airship Passkey gives the airship a magitek look, switched on under Items (RPG Site, Oct 21, 2026). In Japan, pre-orders closed at 23:59 on Oct 21, 2026 on the console stores and at 0:59 on Oct 23, 2026 on Steam (Denfaminicogamer, Jul 16, 2026). The Squire Kickstart Pack is still offered to anyone who buys before its deadline: the PlayStation Store gives Nov 5, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. local time (PlayStation Store, read Oct 25, 2026).
None of the bonus items arrive at the start. All of them, Deluxe items included, are collected from the postbox in front of the inn in the Town of Mitra once the story has passed a certain point (Steam). The EXP and gil armor help most early on; Best Early Choices covers when to use them.
Physical and digital
Physical copies exist only for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 version is sold in stores as a Game-Key Card, which holds a key rather than the game, so everything must be downloaded; the Switch cartridge holds the full game (RPG Site, Oct 21, 2026; Nintendo Everything, Oct 21, 2026). Xbox and PC are digital only. At launch Amazon Japan sold the Switch 2 edition at ¥6,949, about 9% below list (Denfaminicogamer, Oct 22, 2026).
Switch and Switch 2 are separate products: there is no Switch 2 Edition upgrade, a Switch owner who wants the Switch 2 version buys it again, and saves do not move between them (Nintendo, read Oct 24, 2026). On Xbox the game is part of Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC (Microsoft Store, read Oct 24, 2026). It was not a day-one Game Pass title and is in no subscription (Insider Gaming, Oct 19, 2026). How each version runs is on Platform Differences, and the PC specs on PC Requirements and Steam Deck.
DLC and updates
The only paid add-on is the Digital Deluxe Upgrade (Steam, Oct 24, 2026). Square Enix told Kotaku there are no plans for DLC or additional content, because the team wanted the game complete at launch (Kotaku, Sep 4, 2026); producer Keisuke Nakashima said there are "currently no plans for additional Visions" (RPG Site, Sep 6, 2026), and that no second game covering Brave Exvius's second season is in development (Inven Global, Sep 3, 2026).
No patch notes had been published on any platform as of Oct 25, 2026. Square Enix's launch post on Steam lists two known issues: the minimap and help display can reappear after being hidden, and audio noise on certain CPU configurations (Square Enix on Steam, Oct 22, 2026).
