Chocobo and Airship

In Final Fantasy Resonance you get a chocobo for free in Chapter 1, from the Chocobo Stablehand in the Village of Kol after a night at the inn, and the airship at the turn of Chapter 4 into Chapter 5, after Dr. Lazarov falls; the chocobo speeds up world map travel, and the airship opens the whole world, with a shop, a save point and a treasure radar on board.

You get your chocobo in Chapter 1 of Final Fantasy Resonance, in the desert Village of Kol: finish the story events there, rest at the inn, then talk to the Chocobo Stablehand at the village entrance, who lends chocobos to the party "free of charge" (Game8, updated Oct 16, 2026). In PLAYGAMES' Chapter 1 playthrough the stablehand greets Rain with "That insignia tells me you're a knight of Grandshelt. Your service has me in your debt. Please, take any that you'd like." The airship comes much later, when the story turns from Chapter 4 to Chapter 5, and it opens the rest of the world of Lapis. Lid's Mechabo, a mechanical chocobo she fights alongside, is a third, separate thing, upgraded through side quests.

The chocobo

The chocobo is a world map mount. Summon it with its button and it carries the party faster across the overworld, and the sprint button makes it faster still (Game8). It also keeps you out of the Sand Pit southwest of Kol, the sinkhole that hides an optional early Antlion: Game8 gives that boss as level 20 with 20,000 HP and weak to Water, far above the party at that point of Chapter 1, and advises steering clear.

It is the most common achievement in the game: 77.1% of Steam players had Kweh! three days after launch, more than had cleared Chapter 1 (57.3%), which fits demo saves carrying over (Steam Web API, read Oct 25, 2026). PowerPyx readers report the chocobo trophy unlocking as soon as they loaded a demo save (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026); see Demo and Save Transfer.

The chocobo opens the first stretch of Chapter 1's map. The Outer Haven writes that "once you obtain a chocobo from the village of Kol in Chapter 1, you can access the Sanctum of Cloud", leaving Kol southward (The Outer Haven, Oct 20, 2026); GameSpot's route to the same Sanctum starts from Grandport Harbor instead and says it cannot be reached from the Kol side of the desert (GameSpot, Oct 22, 2026). The Vision itself is on Visions.

Two side quests touch chocobos. "Rear Support, Ahoy!", open after you win Siren, sends you to the Chocobo Coachman in Grandport and four Human Trap enemies around the port, for a Magicite Shard and 500 gil; Lid's substory "Beyond the Blue" ends with an item called Chocobo Nitro (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026).

The airship

The airship arrives right after Dr. Lazarov's defeat at the end of Chapter 4, by RPG Site's walkthrough (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026); PowerPyx puts it at the start of Chapter 5, which is the same moment seen from the other side (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). In PLAYGAMES' Chapter 5 playthrough the chapter's first objective, "Board the airship outside the imperial capital", appears in Zoldaad's castle. Only 5.8% of Steam players had the Airship Enterprise achievement on Oct 25, 2026 (Steam Web API).

Square Enix's promise for it: "Freely explore the world and land in places that were visible but previously inaccessible", and "numerous dungeons and powerful foes accessible only by airship" (RPG Site, Jun 13, 2026). The official Pixel Trailer shows the red airship crossing the sea past a snow-covered island. Producer Keisuke Nakashima, whose first Final Fantasy was the fifth, wanted airship exploration of the overworld back (Gamereactor, Jun 16, 2026).

The airship is a base as well as a vehicle. Its cabin holds a save point and a shop; in PLAYGAMES' footage the shop's accessory list starts with Brigand's Gloves first, which Game8 prices at 4,000 gil and says raise the steal rate (Game8, updated Oct 23, 2026). The stock changes as the story goes on: RPG Site notes the Adept's Armlet (double EXP for its wearer) arriving in Chapter 6 (RPG Site). A Moogle of Light on board awakens Visions, as the ones in towns do (GameRant, Oct 20, 2026). People join you there over time: Evan at the wheel, Verun for Mechabo's last upgrade, and Aileen the weaponsmith on the deck (see Crafting and Adamantite); Rain's own substory, "A New Leaf", begins on the deck in Chapter 8 (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026).

The first flight has a destination: the hidden town of Mysidia. GameSpot's directions are to press the right trigger to ping the airship's radar, fly to the far south between the Kingdom of Pharm and two small islands, go slightly south and ping again (GameSpot, Oct 22, 2026). The same radar finds buried treasure: one Adamantite lies in the curved bay on the north of the Olderion continent (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026), and Game8's post-game checklist counts 13 hidden airship-radar treasures (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026).

The deck is also a battlefield: Gilgamesh boards it in Chapter 5 for an event fight, which RPG Site says ends with the Genji Gloves and opens the sub quest "Battle at the Big Bridge" (RPG Site).

Mechabo

Mechabo is Lid's own: "Lid fights alongside Mechabo, a mechanical chocobo of her own creation", and "special subquests" unlock new skills for it (RPG Site, Jul 17, 2026). The engineer Verun gives three quests in a row (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026; Game8, updated Oct 23, 2026):

Quest Opens Task Reward
Arise, Mechabo! Chapter 2, after the Mobliz Shipyard events, at the Dwarven Forge Beat 2 Ipoohs north of the Dwarven Forge Magicite Shard, repaired Mechabo
Mechabo Evolved After Arise, Mechabo! 3 Dhorme Chimerae northeast of Grandport, 3 Medusae southwest of the Dwarven Forge, 3 Destroyers in western Olderion, 3 Sandworms in southern Zoldaad, returning to Verun between each Magicite, Mechabo Tackle, Overclock (Game8)
Mechabo Unleashed After your first visit to Mysidia; Verun moves to the airship 3 Mahadevas, then 3 Malbodooms Magicite Cryst, new Mechabo skills

Sources: RPG Site, Game8, PowerPyx.

Mechabo Evolved's steps follow the story: Game8 warns that some need you to progress further first. For the last quest the sources place the monsters differently: RPG Site puts the Mahadevas on an island southwest of the Mysidia continent and the Malbodooms on the island west of the lower Sanctum of Onion Knight, while PowerPyx says Mysidia's western island and western Gronoa, the latter from Chapter 6. Mechabo Tackle, one of the new skills, deals Earth physical damage that grows with every battle you have escaped from (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026). Finishing all three earns Mechabo Mania, held by 0.7% of Steam players on Oct 25, 2026 (Steam Web API). How Lid uses Mechabo in battle is on Lid.

Magitek looks

Two edition bonuses only change how the mounts look. The pre-order "Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack" has the Magitek Airship Passkey, which "transforms your airship into a magitek vessel"; the Digital Deluxe Edition's pack has the Magitek Armor Key, which "gives your chocobo a magitek armor appearance" (RPG Site, Jun 13, 2026). Both are picked up from the postbox in front of the inn in the Town of Mitra once the story passes a certain point, and switched on by setting them to "ON" under Items in the main menu (Steam, read Oct 24, 2026; RPG Site, Oct 21, 2026). Prices and contents are on Release Date, Price and Editions.

Minigames

Towns have minigames with prizes: Square Enix's July reveal invites players to "test your timing by jumping rope" and to "catch wily moogles" in Mog Tag, promising rewards for doing well (RPG Site, Jul 17, 2026). No chocobo race or chocobo breeding has been announced or described by the guide sites as of Oct 25, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get a chocobo in Final Fantasy Resonance? In Chapter 1, finish the story events in the Village of Kol, rest at the inn, then talk to the Chocobo Stablehand at the village entrance. Game8 says the chocobo costs nothing, and it unlocks the Kweh! achievement.

When do you get the airship in Final Fantasy Resonance? At the end of Chapter 4, right after Dr. Lazarov is defeated, by RPG Site's walkthrough; PowerPyx calls it the start of Chapter 5. Chapter 5's first objective is to board it outside Zoldaad's imperial capital.

What does the airship do in Final Fantasy Resonance? It flies anywhere on the world map and lands where you could not walk, opening Mysidia, Sephiroth's whirlpool, the Chamber of Arms, Dragon's Maw and most Cave Masters. On board are a save point, a shop, a Moogle of Light and a treasure radar.

What is Mechabo in Final Fantasy Resonance? Mechabo is the mechanical chocobo Lid built and fights with. Verun upgrades it through three side quests, Arise, Mechabo!, Mechabo Evolved and Mechabo Unleashed, each teaching Lid new Mechabo skills.

How do you use the Magitek Armor Key in Final Fantasy Resonance? Collect it from the postbox in front of the inn in Mitra, then set it to "ON" under Items in the main menu. It only changes the chocobo's look to magitek armor; the Magitek Airship Passkey does the same for the airship.

Are there chocobo races in Final Fantasy Resonance? None has been announced or described by the guide sites as of Oct 25, 2026. The known town minigames are jump rope and Mog Tag.
