Rain
Rain is the hero of Final Fantasy Resonance, a young knight of Grandshelt who commands an airship squadron; he is a Sentinel (the tank role), playable from the start, with the highest HP of the eight party members, and is voiced by Clifford Chapin in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese.
Rain is the main character of Final Fantasy Resonance: a knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt, a Sentinel who protects the party, and the one hero you control from the very start. Producer Keisuke Nakashima uses him to explain the game's Visions: Rain "specializes in strength, but does not have any healing abilities", so pairing him with Leah, a Vision who specializes in healing, gives him those abilities. Square Enix describes him as "bright, earnest, and deeply principled", entrusted with an airship squadron at a young age, and holding "complicated feelings" toward his father, Raegen, who left the family and vanished (RPG Site, Jun 13, 2026). Clifford Chapin voices him in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese.

Stats and role
Rain is the party's wall. Game8's table of every character's maximum stats gives him the highest HP and Stamina of the eight, and the second lowest Speed (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026):
| HP | MP | Strength | Stamina | Magic | Spirit | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7,030 | 442 | 435 | 531 | 250 | 400 | 300 |
Source: Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026 (Game8 does not say at what level).
Reviewers played him the same way: Nintendo Everything used him as the tank, and DualShockers ranks him the best party member of all, for the strongest stats and for The Power Within, which raises all his attributes by 25% in battle. RPG Site's walkthrough has him learn The Power Within at the Sanctissimus Shrine in Chapter 6 (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026).
Limit Bursts
Rain's Limit Burst gauge fills fastest when he staggers an enemy, and his first one is built to follow a stagger: in IGN's early boss footage he acts in the Bonus Phase and shouts "Infinity Drive!" as a burst of fire fills the screen. Game8 lists two:
| Limit Burst | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Infinity Drive | 1 bar | Fire physical damage to one enemy, +50% against a staggered target |
| Crimson Onslaught | 2 bars | Fire damage to all enemies |

Best Visions and builds
Each character takes one Vision, which adds stats and abilities; the full lists are on Visions and Best Visions. The guides agree Rain should tank:
- Game8 leads with the Warrior of Light, whose Multi-Cover lets Rain take hits meant for the others "all game". Its alternatives are Wilhelm (Guard, for a full tank), Firion (Arms Akimbo, to use Multi-Cover and Guard in one turn), Squall (Double Action, for damage), Cecil (Magic Counter) and Noctis or Onion Knight for evasion before Wilhelm (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026).
- Destructoid picks Firion, Noctis or the Warrior of Light (Destructoid, Oct 24, 2026).
- Game8's tank build: the Warrior of Light with the Flamberge, Surcoat, Vitality Charm and Bulletproof Vest; open with Vanguard Glaive, which deals Light damage and Provokes, and learn Multi-Cover and Physical Counter (Game8, updated Oct 21, 2026). With Multi-Cover and Physical Counter (from the Warrior of Light by Mastery Rank 5) he counters once for each ally an area attack hits, up to five times with an Esper out (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026).
- Later in the game Game8 moves him to Cloud or Tidus in Chapter 4, where many enemies are weak to Water, and to Clive or Bartz in Chapter 5 (Game8, updated Oct 23, 2026). PowerPyx beat Ultima Weapon with Rain carrying Sephiroth and the Ragnarok (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026).
IGN's Vision guide agrees on the Warrior of Light early: Rain's Provoke draws enemies onto him, which "pairs really well with the Warrior of Light's counterattacking abilities", and gear that adds an element to his basic attacks, or anti-magic studs so he counters spells as well, makes enemies regret attacking. For later, IGN suggests giving Rain the same Bartz-based setup it recommends for Lasswell, trading some protection for damage. Whole parties are on Best Party and Builds.
Dialogue stat choice
At the Earth Shrine in Chapter 1, a dialogue choice gives Rain a permanent bonus: Strength +3, Stamina +3 or Spirit +3 (GameRant, Oct 23, 2026). Game8 notes these choices cannot be changed later except by reloading a save (Game8). For a tank, Stamina fits his role; the difference is 3 points.
Story and substory
Spoilers for Chapters 1 and 8 follow.
Rain and his childhood friend Lasswell are sent to the Earth Shrine to look into its weakening barrier, where the armored Veritas of the Dark beats them and shatters the Earth Crystal; he then attacks Grandshelt, and after saving the king Rain sets out with Lasswell and Fina to protect the remaining Crystals (RPG Site). The knight also wipes out Rain's airship squadron (Worthplaying, Oct 20, 2026). Pocket Tactics reads his arc as that of a son overshadowed by his father.
His substory, "A New Leaf", is the last of the eight to open. RPG Site says it starts by talking to Raegen on the airship deck after Chapter 7, then runs through Grandshelt Castle, the Town of Mitra and Waterfall Way; it rewards the Knight's Medallion and a permanent HP +100, MP +30, Stamina +30 and Strength +20 (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026). Story tells the whole plot.
