Best Visions
The Vision every major tier list in Final Fantasy Resonance puts at the top is Bartz, followed by Terra; Game8 and DualShockers also rank Sephiroth and Y'shtola highest, and Destructoid favors Cloud, Squall, Shantotto and Tronn. Firion's Arms Akimbo, two actions a turn, is the ability guides most want on everyone.
The best Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance, by the agreement of Game8, Destructoid and DualShockers, is Bartz, whose Dual Spellblade can hit up to eight times a turn once it is combined with other Visions' abilities (DualShockers, Oct 23, 2026). Terra sits in the top tier of both full tier lists, and the three outlets split on the rest. IGN's "Best Vision Pairings for Each Character", made after 65 hours with the game, starts with one ability rather than a Vision: Firion's Arms Akimbo, which lets the user act twice in a turn. Stacked with Bartz's Dual Spellblade, Squall's Double Action and Nichol's Mirroring Prism Limit Burst, IGN counts "an insane 16 hit combo", and 32 hits if the next character follows with Mimic. How Visions and their abilities work is on Visions and Abilities, AP and Mastery Rank.

Vision tier lists compared
The two full tier lists, Game8's and Destructoid's, rank all 26 Visions and disagree on many of them. They are the outlets' opinions, written in the first days after launch.
| Tier | Game8 | Destructoid |
|---|---|---|
| S | Bartz, Terra, Y'shtola, Sephiroth, Ayaka | Bartz, Cloud, Squall, Shantotto, Terra, Tronn |
| A | Warrior of Light, Firion, Cloud, Squall, Shantotto, Victoria | Noctis, Sephiroth, Ayaka, Firion, Cecil, Warrior of Light, Zidane, Y'shtola |
| B | Leah, Onion Knight, Cecil, Tidus, Noctis, Clive, Wilhelm | Leah, Camille, Victoria |

Sources: Game8, Oct 23, 2026; Destructoid, Oct 23, 2026.
Where they agree: Bartz and Terra at the top; Firion and the Warrior of Light in A; Leah in B; Aileen, Amelia, Charlotte, Clive, Lightning and Vaan near the bottom. Where they differ most: Destructoid puts Tronn, an early story Vision, in S while Game8 has him in C, and Game8 rates Y'shtola, Sephiroth and Ayaka higher.
DualShockers names a top three instead: Bartz, Sephiroth and Y'shtola (DualShockers, Oct 23, 2026). Its case for Bartz, shown here in his official Vision trailer with Rain wielding his power, is Dual Spellblade, which reaches up to eight hits a turn alongside Arms Akimbo and Double Action. Sephiroth is an optional boss at level 45 (Sephiroth), and Y'shtola staggers with fire and ice, heals, and grows stronger the more types of magic she uses (RPG Site, Jun 13, 2026).
Best Vision for each character
IGN, Destructoid and Game8 each give per-character picks. Destructoid lists up to three for each of the first five party members; IGN explains one main pairing per character, with the abilities that make it work.
| Character | IGN | Destructoid | Game8 build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rain | Warrior of Light | Firion, Noctis or Warrior of Light | Warrior of Light |
| Lasswell | Bartz | Cloud, Firion or Tidus | Cloud |
| Fina | Leah, then Ayaka | Leah, Tronn or Terra | Leah |
| Lid | Cloud | Tidus or Terra | |
| Nichol | Leah, then Ayaka | Onion Knight, Terra or Tidus | |
| Jake | Tidus or Cloud's abilities | ||
| Sakura | Shantotto or Terra |

Lasswell is the party's only Breaker, so IGN gives him Bartz, whose three elements fill Lasswell's coverage gaps and ramp up stagger, then fills the space between Arms Akimbo, Double Action and half MP cost with critical and stagger boosts carried over from Cloud, Sephiroth and Tronn. Game8's stagger build uses Cloud with the Iwakirimaru, Black Garb, Stagger Ring and Idaten's Shoes (Game8, Oct 21, 2026). See Lasswell.
Rain draws enemy attacks with Provoke, which IGN pairs with the Warrior of Light's counterattacks, adding gear that gives his basic attacks an element, or anti-magic studs so he counters spells too. For a later, more team-minded Rain, IGN reuses Lasswell's Bartz setup. Game8's version is the Warrior of Light with the Flamberge, opening with Vanguard Glaive (Light damage and Provoke) and learning Multi-Cover and Physical Counter (Game8, Oct 21, 2026). See Rain.
Fina heals best with Leah early, and IGN swaps her for Ayaka once Ayaka arrives in Chapter 7: stronger heals that also buff damage, revival to full health and healing over time. Game8 adds that Fina learns Curaga on her own at level 35, which lowers Leah's value later (Game8, Oct 22, 2026). DualShockers keeps Fina as the healer unless someone else carries a Medic Vision (DualShockers, Oct 24, 2026). See Fina.
Lid pairs with Cloud in IGN's guide, sharing his love of critical hits and staggers. Her Overclock and Overclock Zero raise the damage and stagger power of Mechabo's next three skills by 150% and 300%, after which Mechabo needs two turns to cool down, and Cloud's Spellblade attacks cover that gap. See Lid.
Nichol buffs the party with Formations, so IGN pairs him with a healer, Leah and later Ayaka, who also lengthens his buffs by a turn; the rest of the party should learn Leah's Pass the Torch to extend the chain, and physical attackers gain from Tidus's Tip-Top Shape. Jake is IGN's best candidate for that Tidus buff, and his guaranteed critical hits suit Cloud's critical and stagger abilities. See Nichol and Jake.
Sakura is the strongest mage, and IGN pairs her with Shantotto: Area Effect Adept lets her multicast without a damage penalty and Dualcast casts a black or white spell twice in one turn, so she can spam big spells such as Salvation Scythe. IGN adds Terra's Break the Limit to push her past the damage cap, and calls Terra herself a good alternative for her wider elemental coverage, Sharp Mind and Magic Boost. See Sakura.
Spoilers for Chapter 5 follow. For Archwitch Fina, who joins for good in Chapter 5, IGN recommends Terra's magic buffs and Sharp Mind, and above all Sephiroth, whose passives raise magic and physical damage, add 40% critical rate and include Legendary Soldier, which lets her attack with her highest attack stat and defend with her highest defense stat. Party-wide builds are on Best Party and Builds.
Visions by chapter
Game8's chapter-by-chapter recommendations for the Visions you have at each point of the story:
| Chapter | Game8's pairings |
|---|---|
| 1 | Rain: Warrior of Light; Lasswell: Cloud; Fina: Leah, or Terra for bosses |
| 2 | Rain: Warrior of Light or Noctis; Lasswell: Cloud; Fina: Tronn; Lid: Terra |
| 3 | Rain: Warrior of Light or Squall; Lasswell: Cloud or Firion; Fina: Tronn, Onion Knight or Leah; Lid: Tronn or Terra |
| 4 | Rain: Cloud or Tidus (many enemies are weak to Water); Lid: Terra; Nichol on Formations and Protectga |
| 5 | Rain: Clive or Bartz, with Nichol, Sakura or Lid, and Fina |
Source: Game8, Oct 23, 2026.
KultZ's Complete Beginner's Guide gives the same opening three, the Warrior of Light for Rain, Cloud for Lasswell and Leah for Fina, as "an easy way to start assigning roles", with Terra when you want more magic, and stresses that none of these pairs has to be permanent.
What to level first
- Take cheap ranks everywhere. Mastery Rank costs rise steeply and later enemies give more MRP, so DualShockers swaps Visions early to collect cheap passives (DualShockers, Oct 22, 2026).
- Chase the Mastery Rank 9 abilities. Firion's Arms Akimbo (two actions a turn, stacking with Dualcast and Double Action), Squall's Double Action (DualShockers, Oct 23, 2026), Terra's Break the Limit (damage cap 99,999 instead of 9,999; GameRant, Oct 24, 2026) and Vaan's Double Gil (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
- Awaken Leah, then Cloud. Game8's order for Magicite is Leah (Cura at one star, Curaga at two) and Cloud (Cross-Slash and a large critical boost against staggered enemies at two), with the Warrior of Light and Terra only to one star early (Game8, Oct 22, 2026). Terra gains Ribbon at full awakening and is the only Vision that teaches Ultima (DualShockers, Oct 23, 2026).
- Use Victoria to farm. Her mastery bonuses include MRP Gain +50% and Drop Rate Up (DualShockers, Oct 23, 2026).
Matching a Vision's role to the character's helps but is not required (The Outerhaven, Oct 20, 2026), and most of the 26 Visions are Breakers, so keep a healer, Fina or a Medic Vision, in the party (DualShockers, Oct 22, 2026).

Source: Game8, Oct 23, 2026. Game8's list has 26 Resonances but names no Vision for Aetherial Wind, and Y'shtola is the only Vision missing from it. Cloud's Ascension hits for almost 2,000 on weak enemies at level 15, the strongest Resonance on the first two continents by Screen Rant's count (Screen Rant, Oct 20, 2026).

Abilities, AP and Mastery RankIn Final Fantasy Resonance a character learns abilities from the Vision they equip as its Mastery Rank rises from 0 to 9 with MRP from battles; learned abilities stay with that character and are equipped within an AP budget that grows with Mastery Rank, while Magicite awakens a Vision to three stars for stronger skills. -
SephirothSephiroth is an optional boss and Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance, fought in Whirlpool Hollow northeast of the Village of Kol once you have the airship in Chapter 5. He is listed at level 45 with 250,000 HP in three phases, but guides suggest level 60 or more; beating him gives the Sephiroth Vision and a Magicite Cryst.
-
LasswellLasswell is Rain's childhood friend and deputy commander in Final Fantasy Resonance, a katana-wielding Breaker who favors ice, playable from the start; guides build him to stagger enemies with Cloud or Firion, and he is voiced by Alejandro Saab in English and Yusuke Kobayashi in Japanese. -
RainRain is the hero of Final Fantasy Resonance, a young knight of Grandshelt who commands an airship squadron; he is a Sentinel (the tank role), playable from the start, with the highest HP of the eight party members, and is voiced by Clifford Chapin in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese. -
FinaFina is the healer of Final Fantasy Resonance, a girl who appears from the Earth Crystal remembering only her name; she is a Medic who joins in Chapter 1, the party member who summons its Espers, and is voiced by Lizzie Freeman in English and Akane Fujita in Japanese. Her second form, Archwitch Fina, is a separate party member from Chapter 5.
