Visions
Final Fantasy Resonance has 26 Visions, crystallized heroes that each party member equips one at a time for stats, abilities and a Resonance attack. 17 are heroes from earlier Final Fantasy games, from the Warrior of Light to Clive, and 9 are originals; all 26 come from Chapters 1 to 7 and none can be missed.
Final Fantasy Resonance has 26 Visions, and you collect all of them during the story and its sub quests: each of your party members equips one Vision, which raises their stats, teaches them its abilities and gives them its Resonance, a 3D CG finishing move (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). Producer Keisuke Nakashima calls them "echoes of beloved Final Fantasy characters" in his gameplay tips video, and gives the example of pairing Rain, who has no healing of his own, with the healing Vision Leah. 17 Visions are heroes of earlier Final Fantasy games (the mainline protagonists, Y'shtola, Shantotto and Sephiroth) and the other 9 are original to Brave Exvius (Worthplaying, Oct 20, 2026). Which ones to use is on Best Visions; how their abilities and ranks work is on Abilities, AP and Mastery Rank.

How Visions work
A Vision is the crystallized essence of a hero. Each party member equips one, which boosts their stats and unlocks the Vision's abilities, and fighting with it builds affinity (RPG Site, Jun 13, 2026). Every character keeps a permanent role (Rain is a Sentinel, Fina a Medic), and a Vision of another role changes the mix: PSU's example is a Commando with a Medic Vision, who becomes a damage-dealing healer (PSU, Oct 20, 2026). In battle each character chooses every turn whether to act as themselves or through their Vision, so a party of four fights almost like eight (The Outerhaven, Oct 20, 2026).
Visions grow in two separate ways:
- Mastery Rank (MR) rises from 0 to 9 with MRP earned in battle. It is tracked for each character and Vision pair, so Cloud at MR 9 on Rain is still MR 0 on Lasswell (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). Each rank teaches an ability and gives permanent stat boosts, and learned abilities stay after you unequip the Vision, as long as they fit the character's AP (Game8, Oct 21, 2026). PSU's reviewer moved each Vision on to another character once it was maxed (PSU, Oct 20, 2026).
- Awakening gives a Vision up to three stars with Magicite Shards, Magicite and Magicite Crysts at a Moogle of Light, unlocking stronger versions of its skills; stars are shared by every character who uses that Vision (GameRant, Oct 20, 2026). PowerPyx says there is enough Magicite in the game to awaken every Vision fully (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026).
Every Vision also has one Resonance: after a Sweeping Stagger (every enemy staggered in one turn) you choose one Resonance from the Visions your party has equipped (Game8, Oct 23, 2026). The whole battle system is on Combat.
Where Visions come from
Sixteen of the 17 legacy heroes wait at Sanctums of Light around the world of Lapis (RPG Site, Jul 17, 2026). At a Sanctum the crystal asks three questions about the hero's own story, and you get the Vision whatever you answer (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). Before launch Square Enix told Kotaku that answers matching the hero's own choices grant small perks (Kotaku, Sep 4, 2026); GameSpot's guide says the answers never change anything (GameSpot, Oct 22, 2026). The originals come from the story (Tronn and Leah) or from sub quests, and Sephiroth must be beaten in an optional fight (Sephiroth).
Brave Exvius had over 2,000 characters; Resonance brings back 26 (Kotaku, Sep 4, 2026), chosen by popularity votes in Japan and abroad, story depth and balance, and Nakashima said there are no plans for more (RPG Site, Sep 6, 2026).

PowerPyx's Vision list puts Aileen in Chapter 5, while its trophy roadmap says she joins in Chapter 6, after "Forger of Wills" in Dilmagia; both are given above. Clive, Sephiroth and the Chapter 5 Visions need the airship, which arrives at the start of Chapter 5 (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). The step-by-step route through each chapter is on the Walkthrough.
Two achievements count Visions: Visions Assemble for 10, which 23.6% of Steam players had, and Will Crystallized for all 26, which 0.4% had (Steam, Oct 25, 2026). The rest are on Achievements and Trophies.
The official Vision trailers
Square Enix released a one-minute trailer for each of 16 legacy heroes on its Final Fantasy YouTube channel between Aug 7 and Sep 25, 2026 (all listed under Sources; RPG Site covered the Lightning and Clive trailers on their release days). Each opens with the hero's original world in text over clips of their game, shows the hero's Brave Exvius-style sprite, then cuts to Rain using the Vision in battle and the Vision's Resonance in 3D CG. The moments below start at the battle.
Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy 1, Aug 7, 2026): Rain uses Vanguard Glaive in a dark hall, then the CG shows the Warrior of Light raising his sword above the clouds. His Resonance is Crystal Braver, damage to all enemies with Regen and a defense and Spirit boost for himself (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Cloud (Final Fantasy 7, Aug 10, 2026): Rain's Cross-Slash bursts across the enemy, then Cloud swings the Buster Sword at a machine and leaps into his Resonance, Ascension: Lightning damage to one enemy with a high critical rate (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Shantotto (Final Fantasy 11, Aug 12, 2026): a battle in a misty field, then Shantotto under a full moon calls down a pink blast. Her Resonance, Colossal Shantotto II, deals Dark magic damage to one enemy and fills the limit gauge by 20% (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Noctis (Final Fantasy 15, Aug 14, 2026): a desert battle, then Noctis leaps among glowing blue swords in the night sky for Armiger Unleashed, physical damage to all enemies.
Onion Knight (Final Fantasy 3, Aug 17, 2026): a forest battle against a beast, then the Onion Knight appears in several outfits, which fits his Resonance's name, Job Change Attack.
Lightning (Final Fantasy 13, Aug 19, 2026): lightning strikes enemies in a metal facility, then her CG. Her Resonance, Zantetsuken, hits all enemies with Lightning and has a 40% chance of instant death (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Bartz (Final Fantasy 5, Aug 21, 2026): a green wind attack in a forest, then Bartz rides his chocobo Boko through the stars and into daylight, sword raised.
Vaan (Final Fantasy 12, Aug 25, 2026): a battle in a red desert, then Vaan's CG ends in an explosion of fire: True Pyroclasm, Fire damage to all enemies with a guaranteed steal (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Y'shtola (Final Fantasy 14, Aug 27, 2026): Rain fights a winged beast in a red hall, then Y'shtola's CG figure glows pink before purple energy strikes a floating rock.
Tidus (Final Fantasy 10, Aug 31, 2026): a battle by a waterfall, then Tidus winds up in the CG and water bursts from his sword: Blitz Ace, Water damage to one enemy whose last hit strikes all of them (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Firion (Final Fantasy 2, Sep 2, 2026): a fiery strike, then Firion faces a huge muscled foe in the CG before streaks of light fill the screen. His Resonance is Weaponsmaster, Light physical damage.
Squall (Final Fantasy 8, Sep 8, 2026): a street battle in a town, then Squall raises his gunblade and a beam strikes the planet from orbit: Blasting Zone, Fire damage to all enemies (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Clive (Final Fantasy 16, Sep 10, 2026): a volcanic battle, then Clive draws his sword, calls "Ifrit!" and the flaming Eikon rises: True Ifrit-Primed, Fire damage to one enemy (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Terra (Final Fantasy 6, Sep 21, 2026): in a snowfield the banner reads "Riot Blade - Lotus" as Terra appears beside Rain, then her CG glows pink. Game8 describes Riot Blade - Lotus as non-elemental magic damage to all enemies (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Zidane (Final Fantasy 9, Sep 23, 2026): green magic in a dungeon, then Zidane's CG before a great tree in pink light: Climax Edge, Wind magic damage to one enemy (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Cecil (Final Fantasy 4, Sep 25, 2026): a moon-shaped blast in battle, then Cecil as a paladin in the CG and a dark knight's helmet. His Resonance, Knight of Duality, deals Light damage to all enemies and gives the party a one-time 50% barrier (Game8, Oct 23, 2026).
Sephiroth has no Vision trailer of his own; he was revealed in the Official Gameplay Trailer (Sep 3, 2026), which shows his CG ("Shall I give you despair?") and the party fighting him. You win him at Whirlpool Hollow from Chapter 5, where PowerPyx lists him at level 45 (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026); the fight is on Sephiroth.

Brave Exvius ConnectionFinal Fantasy Resonance retells the first season of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (2015 to 2025), rebuilt for consoles with a rewritten script, a world map, no gacha and 26 Visions as fixed companions; it is a reimagining rather than a port, and you do not need to have played Brave Exvius.
-
Best VisionsThe Vision every major tier list in Final Fantasy Resonance puts at the top is Bartz, followed by Terra; Game8 and DualShockers also rank Sephiroth and Y'shtola highest, and Destructoid favors Cloud, Squall, Shantotto and Tronn. Firion's Arms Akimbo, two actions a turn, is the ability guides most want on everyone. -
Abilities, AP and Mastery RankIn Final Fantasy Resonance a character learns abilities from the Vision they equip as its Mastery Rank rises from 0 to 9 with MRP from battles; learned abilities stay with that character and are equipped within an AP budget that grows with Mastery Rank, while Magicite awakens a Vision to three stars for stronger skills. -
CombatFinal Fantasy Resonance uses classic turn-based battles with a turn timeline: hit an enemy's weaknesses to empty its stagger gauge, which cancels its turn and gives the attacker a Bonus Phase, and stagger every enemy at once for a Sweeping Stagger, an extra action for the whole party and a Vision's Resonance attack. -
World of LapisFinal Fantasy Resonance is set on Lapis, a world of Crystals whose regions open one per chapter: the Kingdom of Grandshelt, Dirnado the Continent of Wind, the Olderion Federation, the Zoldaad Empire, Mysidia, Gronoa and the Kingdom of Pharm, crossed on foot, by chocobo, boat, train and from Chapter 5 by airship. -
SephirothSephiroth is an optional boss and Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance, fought in Whirlpool Hollow northeast of the Village of Kol once you have the airship in Chapter 5. He is listed at level 45 with 250,000 HP in three phases, but guides suggest level 60 or more; beating him gives the Sephiroth Vision and a Magicite Cryst.
