Best Party and Builds
The guide sites' best Final Fantasy Resonance party is Rain as the tank, Lasswell as the breaker, Fina as the healer and a fourth member for damage or buffs (Lid early, then Nichol or Sakura), with Warrior of Light on Rain, Cloud on Lasswell and Leah on Fina to start; DualShockers ranks Rain, Lasswell and Nichol the three best party members.
The best party in Final Fantasy Resonance covers three jobs before anything else: a Sentinel to protect the team, a Medic to heal and a Breaker to empty stagger gauges, with the fourth slot for damage or support. IGN's combat guide lays out the six roles (Commando, Medic, Sentinel, Breaker, Synergist and Saboteur) and gives exactly that advice: "A balanced team benefits from a mix of roles". In practice that is Rain, Lasswell and Fina, who are with you from Chapter 1, plus one of the later recruits. Only four fight at once, but every one of them carries a Vision, and a Vision can lend a character a second role, so the party is really eight sets of abilities. How the systems work is on Combat and Visions; this page collects the guide sites' recommended teams, pairings and gear, each as theirs.

DualShockers' reasons: Rain has the strongest stats and The Power Within, which raises all his attributes by 25% in battle; Lasswell is the main damage dealer; Nichol's Formations buff the party, and with Arms Akimbo and Tactic: Fluid Warfare he can act four times a turn; Fina is essential unless someone else carries a Medic Vision; Sakura is the strongest caster; Lid staggers through Overclock and Mechamog Scan, which adds a random elemental weakness; Archwitch Fina is a situational Dark debuffer whose best spells come late; Jake's Luck-based counters are hard to plan around. DualShockers also warns against fielding both Finas, since only one Esper can be out at a time. Game8's stat table gives Rain the most HP (7,030), Lasswell the most Speed (552), Sakura the most Magic (540) and Archwitch Fina the most MP (707) (Game8).
Game8's party for each chapter
Game8 updates its recommended team as members join (Game8, updated Oct 23, 2026):
| Chapter | Rain | Lasswell | Fina | Fourth slot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Warrior of Light | Cloud | Leah, or Terra for bosses | (three members) |
| 2 | Warrior of Light or Noctis | Cloud | Tronn | Lid with Terra |
| 3 | Warrior of Light or Squall | Cloud or Firion | Tronn, Onion Knight or Leah | Lid with Tronn or Terra; Nichol in reserve while he levels |
| 4 | Cloud or Tidus, for the many Water-weak enemies | secondary caster | Lid with Terra, Nichol on Formations and Protectga | |
| 5 | Clive or Bartz | Fina | Nichol, plus Sakura or Lid |
Source: Game8. Game8 notes that Nichol's Formations gain an attack buff at level 34, which is why he moves into the core team by Chapter 5.
Vision pairings
IGN, after 65 hours, pairs Rain's Provoke with the Warrior of Light's counterattacks, adding items that give his basic attacks an element so he answers magic too; later, Rain can take the same Breaker pairing it gives Lasswell (IGN, Oct 23, 2026). Destructoid's choices are close: Rain with Firion, Noctis or Warrior of Light; Fina with Leah, Tronn or Terra; Lasswell with Cloud, Firion or Tidus; Lid with Tidus or Terra; Nichol with Onion Knight, Terra or Tidus (Destructoid, Oct 24, 2026).
Lasswell is the only Breaker in the party, so IGN gives him Bartz, whose three elements fill gaps and ramp up stagger, then rounds him out with crit and stagger boosts learned from Cloud, Sephiroth and Tronn. Game8 and KultZ both start him on Cloud, and IGN's own "9 Things" video says its author kept Cloud on Lasswell for the whole game.
Fina heals best with Leah early. In Chapter 7 IGN swaps Leah for Ayaka, "better in almost every way": stronger heals that also buff damage, full-HP revives and heals over time.
Lid's best pairing, for IGN, is Cloud, who shares her love of crits and staggers. Her Overclock and Overclock Zero raise the damage and stagger of the next three Mechabo skills by 150% and 300%, after which Mechabo cools down for two turns, and Cloud's Spellblade attacks fill those turns. The Mechabo quests that teach these skills are on Chocobo and Airship.
Nichol supports, so IGN gives him a healer Vision: Leah early, then Ayaka, who also lengthens his buffs by a turn. It suggests the rest of the party learn a Leah ability that extends his chains of Formations, and put a Tidus ability on physical attackers whose damage grows with the buffs a character carries.
Jake is IGN's best user of that Tidus buff: his Luck stacks, and the guaranteed critical hits of his skills work with Cloud's critical stagger and critical boost abilities.
Sakura pairs with Shantotto for IGN, whose abilities remove the multicast damage penalty and whose Dualcast casts black or white magic twice a turn; Terra is the alternative, with wider elemental coverage, Sharp Mind and Magic Boost, and Terra's Break the Limit lets anyone pass the 9,999 damage cap. GameRant notes that cap rises to 99,999 with Break the Limit, learned with Terra at Mastery Rank 9 (GameRant, Oct 24, 2026).
Archwitch Fina, the Saboteur, does scaling Dark damage; IGN pairs her with Terra's magic buffs and Sharp Mind, or best of all with Sephiroth, whose Legendary Soldier lets her attack with her highest attack stat and defend with her highest defense stat.
Abilities worth carrying
Learned abilities stay with a character after the Vision comes off, within the character's AP budget (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026), so builds are made from several Visions at once. IGN singles out Firion's Arms Akimbo, two actions a turn, as "an incredibly strong addition to any member of your party": stacked with Bartz's Dual Spellblade, Squall's Double Action and Nichol's Limit Burst Mirroring Prism it makes a 16-hit turn, and 32 with a follow-up Mimic. DualShockers notes Firion learns Arms Akimbo at Mastery Rank 9 and Squall Double Action at Mastery Rank 9, and that the two stack with Dualcast (DualShockers, Oct 23, 2026).
Match the Vision to the character's damage type. IGN's "9 Things" video puts Rain and Jake on the physical side and Fina and Sakura on the magic side, with Lasswell and Lid in between: "There's no point equipping a Vision that deals out magic damage if you've gone all in on a physical build." Each skill's summary, opened with Square (or your platform's button) in Equipment and Abilities, says whether it is physical or magic. The Outer Haven adds that matching roles (a Breaker Vision on a Breaker) helps but is not required (The Outer Haven, Oct 20, 2026), and DualShockers ran Lasswell as its main caster for much of the game (DualShockers, Oct 22, 2026).
Vision tier lists
The three big lists agree on Bartz at the top and disagree almost everywhere else, so treat each as one site's view (more on Best Visions):
| Site | Top tier |
|---|---|
| Game8 (S) | Bartz, Terra, Y'shtola, Sephiroth, Ayaka |
| Destructoid (S) | Bartz, Cloud, Squall, Shantotto, Terra, Tronn |
| DualShockers (top 3) | Bartz, Sephiroth, Y'shtola |
Sources: Game8, updated Oct 23, 2026; Destructoid, Oct 23, 2026; DualShockers, Oct 23, 2026. Tronn is S at Destructoid and C at Game8.
Early builds with gear
Game8's three starting builds use gear you can have in Chapter 1 (Game8, updated Oct 21, 2026):
| Build | Vision | Weapon | Armor and accessories | Key abilities |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rain, tank | Warrior of Light | Flamberge | Surcoat, Vitality Charm, Bulletproof Vest | Open with Vanguard Glaive (Light damage and Provoke); Multi-Cover, Physical Counter |
| Lasswell, stagger | Cloud | Iwakirimaru | Black Garb, Stagger Ring, Idaten's Shoes | Restore MP on Stagger, Restore HP on Stagger |
| Fina, healer | Leah | Floral Arc | Spirit Veil, two Mage's Glasses | Healing Magic +30%; Cure and Shell first |
Source: Game8. Where to find each piece is on Best Early Choices.
Rain's counter build grows from there: with Multi-Cover and Physical Counter (Warrior of Light by Mastery Rank 5), Protect and Shell counters trigger once for each ally an area attack hits, up to five with an Esper out (Game8, updated Oct 24, 2026).
Endgame builds
Each member's strongest weapon is usually the one Aileen forges from Adamantite, and PowerPyx says these often beat the Legendary Arms (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026); Game8 says forge Sakura's Roselia first. The list is on Crafting and Adamantite.
For Ultima Weapon, the hardest optional fight, PowerPyx won with Rain (Sephiroth, Ragnarok), Fina (Ayaka, Artemis Bow), Archwitch Fina (Shantotto, Fire Birch) and Sakura (Terra, Roselia): Fina Dualcasts Reraise on everyone in the first two turns, the two casters Dualcast Ultima, and Sakura's Limit Burst Eternal Veil blocks the Ultima Beam (PowerPyx).
Frequently asked questions
What is the best party in Final Fantasy Resonance? The guide sites build around Rain as tank, Lasswell as breaker and Fina as healer, with Nichol for buffs or Sakura for magic damage in the fourth slot once they join. DualShockers ranks Rain, Lasswell and Nichol the three best members.
Who should Lasswell use as a Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance? Cloud is the usual early choice (Game8, KultZ, Destructoid), and IGN's later pick is Bartz for his three elements and fast stagger. Lasswell is the party's only Breaker, so stagger power matters most.
What is the best Vision for Rain in Final Fantasy Resonance? Warrior of Light, for Provoke and counterattacks, is Game8's and IGN's tank pick; Destructoid also likes Firion and Noctis. Later Rain can use the same Breaker pairings as Lasswell.
Do I need a healer in Final Fantasy Resonance? DualShockers says keep one at all times: Fina, or anyone carrying a Medic Vision such as Leah or Ayaka. Most of the 26 Visions are Breakers, so Medics are scarcer.
Can I use both Fina and Archwitch Fina in Final Fantasy Resonance? You can, but DualShockers calls it redundant, since only one Esper can be summoned at a time.
What is the best ability in Final Fantasy Resonance? IGN names Firion's Arms Akimbo, two actions a turn, learnable by anyone and stackable with Dualcast and Double Action. Terra's Break the Limit, which lifts the damage cap from 9,999 to 99,999, is the other one every endgame build wants.

Final Fantasy ResonanceFinal Fantasy Resonance is Square Enix's first HD-2D Final Fantasy, made with Lancarse: a turn-based RPG that retells the first season of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, released on Oct 22, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows (Steam). Rain, Lasswell and Fina race to protect the world's Crystals, helped by Visions, echoes of heroes from across the series. -
RainRain is the hero of Final Fantasy Resonance, a young knight of Grandshelt who commands an airship squadron; he is a Sentinel (the tank role), playable from the start, with the highest HP of the eight party members, and is voiced by Clifford Chapin in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese. -
LasswellLasswell is Rain's childhood friend and deputy commander in Final Fantasy Resonance, a katana-wielding Breaker who favors ice, playable from the start; guides build him to stagger enemies with Cloud or Firion, and he is voiced by Alejandro Saab in English and Yusuke Kobayashi in Japanese. -
FinaFina is the healer of Final Fantasy Resonance, a girl who appears from the Earth Crystal remembering only her name; she is a Medic who joins in Chapter 1, the party member who summons its Espers, and is voiced by Lizzie Freeman in English and Akane Fujita in Japanese. Her second form, Archwitch Fina, is a separate party member from Chapter 5. -
CombatFinal Fantasy Resonance uses classic turn-based battles with a turn timeline: hit an enemy's weaknesses to empty its stagger gauge, which cancels its turn and gives the attacker a Bonus Phase, and stagger every enemy at once for a Sweeping Stagger, an extra action for the whole party and a Vision's Resonance attack. -
VisionsFinal Fantasy Resonance has 26 Visions, crystallized heroes that each party member equips one at a time for stats, abilities and a Resonance attack. 17 are heroes from earlier Final Fantasy games, from the Warrior of Light to Clive, and 9 are originals; all 26 come from Chapters 1 to 7 and none can be missed.
