Walkthrough
Final Fantasy Resonance has a prologue and eight chapters, from Chapter 1, Tailing the Truth, to Chapter 8, Beyond Hope; each ends with a hidden chapter-clear achievement, the airship arrives between Chapters 4 and 5, and the only point of no return is the final teleport in the Crystal Tower.
Final Fantasy Resonance has a prologue and eight chapters: 1 Tailing the Truth, 2 Eternal Blue, 3 Wardens of the Aquapolis, 4 Banner Oath, 5 Scars of Time, 6 Tranquility, 7 Reckoning and 8 Beyond Hope (RPG Site, Oct 22, 2026). The current chapter and goal always sit at the top left of the screen, as in this no-commentary run's "Chapter 1 - Tailing the Truth: Investigate the Earth Shrine". Square Enix puts the main story at 30 to 40 hours (Siliconera, Oct 15, 2026) and GameRant at 40 to 60 (GameRant, Oct 22, 2026); see How Long to Beat. The prologue
Before Chapter 1 the game plays a short prologue: a hooded woman on a burning battlefield fights an Iron Giant, which is weak to Thundaga, until Bahamut ends it with Megaflare (RPG Site). It teaches the battle menu and summoning, and nothing in it can be missed. The Chapter 1 Walkthrough covers it in full.

Sources: places and bosses from RPG Site (Oct 22, 2026) and Game8's boss list (read Oct 25, 2026); party members from Game8 (Oct 24, 2026); achievements and the share of Steam players holding each from Steam, read Oct 25, 2026, three days after launch.
The chapter-clear achievements are hidden on Steam and are all Bronze trophies on PlayStation (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026); see Achievements and Trophies. Game8 spells Chapter 1 "Trailing the Truths"; RPG Site and GameRant write "Tailing the Truth". Rain and Lasswell are in the party from the start; Archwitch Fina travels with the party for part of Chapter 3 before joining for good in Chapter 5 (Game8). Every boss is collected on Bosses.
Where the chapters happen
Each of the first four chapters is set in its own region: Grandshelt in Chapter 1, Dirnado, the Continent of Wind, in Chapter 2 (shown here as the chapter opens), the Olderion Federation in Chapter 3 and the Zoldaad Empire in Chapter 4 (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). Each has three Vision Sanctums you can visit while there. Mysidia, Gronoa and the Kingdom of Pharm come later. The full map is on World of Lapis.
If you leave a region early, you can go back: Game8 notes you can sail to Olderion from Grandport Harbor before its fast travel point is unlocked (Game8, Oct 22, 2026). Sirloin's full walkthrough, shown here, picks up Chapter 3 on the Olderion world map.
Chapter 4 is the last of the linear chapters. Visit every location in Zoldaad once to unlock its fast travel points, as Game8 advises (Game8, Oct 24, 2026); the tunnels and factories of Banner Oath lead to Zoldaad Castle.
From Chapter 5 the airship opens most of the world (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). The chapter starts in Zoldaad Castle Plaza with the goal "Board the airship outside the imperial capital". The airship unlocks Sephiroth's fight at Whirlpool Hollow, the Chamber of Arms, most Cave Masters and the late Espers; see Chocobo and Airship.
General advice
Pick up Tablet Shards as you go and turn them in at Oblivion Palace, southeast of Grandport Harbor; three shards open the first reward and there are 12, 15, 15, 16, 17, 12, 8 and 4 in Chapters 1 to 8 (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). The game's own tutorial on them appears early in Chapter 1, as shown here. Game8 says to visit Oblivion Palace regularly, since late turn-ins make the rewards less useful (Game8, Oct 22, 2026).
- Shop each chapter. Equipment shops refresh each chapter, and some merchant ship stock rotates away for good (RPG Site).
- Check weaknesses. Nearly every boss has an elemental weakness; Leah's Libra shows weaknesses and resistances in battle (Game8, read Oct 25, 2026). See Combat.
- Dungeons show a recommended level at the entrance, and a couple of levels under it is fine (The Outer Haven, Oct 20, 2026).
- Scripted losses. Umbra in Chapter 1, Gilgamesh in Chapter 1 and the first two Ignis fights in Chapter 4 cannot be won; do not spend items on them (RPG Site; Game8).
- Dialogue choices are permanent. Each party member gets one stat choice (for example Rain's Strength, Stamina or Spirit +3 at the Earth Shrine), and only a reload changes it (GameRant, Oct 23, 2026; Game8). Sanctum quiz answers change nothing.
- Party by chapter. Game8's suggested Vision line-ups for each chapter are summed up on each chapter page and on Best Party and Builds.
- Difficulty can be changed at any time from the menu (Game8); see Difficulty Settings.
New players should also read the Beginner's Guide and Best Early Choices.
Missables and the point of no return
The guides disagree on whether anything is missable. DualShockers says "There are no missables" (DualShockers, Oct 22, 2026), and PowerPyx says every Vision, Esper, Cave Master, Tablet Shard, Legendary Arm and party member stays available in free roam (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026). Game8 lists one-time dungeon chests such as the Black Garb in Grandshelt Castle, the Citrine Pot fight in Siren's Tower and the Genji Gloves that Gilgamesh takes in Chapter 1 (Game8, read Oct 25, 2026); RPG Site says the Chapter 5 airship fight gives the Genji Gloves back, and that only some optional dialogue and Active Time Chats are time-limited (RPG Site).
The point of no return is the Crystal Tower's final teleport, the Upper Reach portal next to the save point (RPG Site). Game8 says to finish sub quests, gear and collectibles before it, though after the credits the game makes a clear save that returns you to just before the final boss (Game8, Oct 24, 2026). Three rare steals, Belphegor, Gluttony and Demon Squid, exist only beyond it (RPG Site). The full list is on Missables.
