Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh is Final Fantasy Resonance's recurring optional rival. He steals the Genji Gloves in an unwinnable Chapter 1 fight in Siren's Tower, you meet him again at Waterfall Way and Timber Tracks, then fight him on the airship deck from Chapter 5, which starts the Battle at the Big Bridge sub quest and its final bridge fight for the Genji Armor.
Gilgamesh, a red, many-armed swordsman, is Final Fantasy Resonance's recurring optional rival: you meet him at several points in the story, and the meetings end in a final fight on a big bridge (RPG Site, Aug 24, 2026). He takes the Genji Gloves from you in Chapter 1, fights you on your own airship from Chapter 5, and gives you the Genji Armor when the Battle at the Big Bridge sub quest is done. Square Enix's 41-second Gilgamesh Video (Sep 15, 2026) introduces him with the line "Here's Gilgamesh, in the flesh!", the same words as the official screenshot below.
Spoilers for meetings in Chapters 1 to 5 follow (no story twists).

Chapter 1: Siren's Tower
The first meeting cannot be won. Halfway up Siren's Tower in the first chapter, a chest holds the Genji Gloves; Gilgamesh then appears and fights Rain, Lasswell and Fina. Game8 lists him at level 11 with 6,000 HP, "difficult to stagger", and says that once his HP drops to around 50% he uses Steal to take the Genji Gloves and runs away, which ends the battle. Sirloin's no-commentary footage shows the whole scene: his introduction, the fight in the tower hall, and his leap out of a window.
How to handle it: do not spend MP or items. You still have to climb to the top of the tower and beat Siren before you can leave and restock, so treat the Gilgamesh fight as free damage practice (Game8). GamerFuzion's demo guide lists him the same way: "A chest in Siren's Tower; scripted cameo".
Can you get the gloves back in Siren's Tower? No: Game8 says they cannot be retrieved there and that he "will appear again later". Game8's Missables list counts the gloves among things you lose for good; RPG Site and the airship scene below say otherwise.
Chapters 3 and 4: Waterfall Way and Timber Tracks
In Chapter 3 Gilgamesh waits at Waterfall Way: talk to him before you reach the altar (Game8). This talk matters: RPG Site says the later airship fight only starts if you have already spoken to him at Waterfall Way. In Chapter 4 he turns up on the Timber Tracks for dialogue only, with no fight (RPG Site).
Chapter 5 on: the airship deck fight
Once you have the airship, Gilgamesh appears on its deck. RPG Site calls it "more of an event fight than a true boss": he periodically turns invulnerable for battle events, so steady damage wins and burst damage is wasted. If he does not appear, RPG Site says to clear Verun's Mechabo quests first; its sub quest guide also suggests rebooting the game if the marker is on the airship but nothing starts. In Sirloin's footage the fight opens with his line "But you, sirs, are harshing my buzz!" and is fought by Lasswell, Rain, Nichol and Archwitch Fina, with the Chapter 6 objective on screen, so the fight is still there if you come back to it later.
After the fight Gilgamesh hands over the gloves: in Sirloin's footage Rain says "These are... those gloves from before", and Lasswell adds that they were stolen from the party in the first place. This matches RPG Site, which lists the Genji Gloves as received after this encounter, while Game8 still says they cannot be recovered. PowerPyx's Ultima Weapon party has Rain wearing them (PowerPyx, Oct 21, 2026).
Battle at the Big Bridge and the final fight
Beating him on the deck starts the sub quest Battle at the Big Bridge: Gilgamesh begs the party to take him to the bridges of the world in the hope that his memories return, and the quest is accepted on screen. RPG Site gives the steps:
- Visit the four marked bridges: northwest of Grandshelt, northeast of Dilmagia, south of Waterfall Way, and by Mozul Station.
- After a scene, go to the bridge north of Felicitas.
- Choose to cross the bridge with Gilgamesh, and fight him.
The last fight is a real one. RPG Site's walkthrough names its place as the Kolobos bridge and warns that he can still go invulnerable if your damage outpaces the scripted events; he gives you the Genji Armor afterward (RPG Site). His level and HP in the later fights are not published by any of our sources as of Oct 25, 2026. Bring a balanced party at the level the airship content asks for; the Best Party and Builds page has setups.
The Gilgamesh Video and the music
Square Enix's Gilgamesh Video shows the airship deck battle against the four-member party, his line "I now know why I came to your world in the first place" and a shout of "BIG BRIDGE!" before he leaps away. Nintendo Everything's review notes that a rendition of "Battle on the Big Bridge" appears in the game and calls it a strong take on one of the series' best-known themes (Nintendo Everything, Oct 20, 2026). The other optional fights are on Bosses, Colosseum, Chamber of Arms, Sephiroth and Cave Masters.
